Why Do We Love Mushroom Prints?

It's no secret that the fashion industry pushes trends.  Not runway fashions because they're too extravagant to buy or wear on any regular basis (can you imagine walking around Nob Hill in June in the Moncler Genius Trench Puffer?), but rather prints, cuts, and colors.

Well, Mushrooms are definitely in this season!  They're a versatile print subject because of their range of shape, color, and size.   Not to mention they can be cute as anything!

Partially we have our latest generation to come-of-age to thank for this.  (And also for bringing back the comfort of high waists and the practicality of large framed spectacles -you know, for those of us who are beginning to need progressive lenses and couldn't figure out how to squish two prescriptions into a tiny frame.) According to Refinery29 and Elle many elements from the 60s, 70s and 00s are being reimagined and coaxed into popularity through Insta posts and TikToks, but mushrooms are... special.  Why?  It has to do with our discoveries about the sustainability mushrooms can lend in manufacturing and about how mushrooms, in various forms, can affect brain health.

If you want to show your 'shroom-y appreciation, Self Serve has been on the lookout for forward fungus fashions.  We've had a colorful mushroom robe, and several bralette and underwear combos with mushroom prints.  And we might have recently ordered a fun, fungus shaped toy to test...

We'll post about it if it bears fruit... ;)
