Interested in learning the basics of shibari, a centuries-old practice of sensual Japanese rope bondage? Join Stevie (they/them) of the Self Serve team as they guide you through this 3-hour intensive class covering the history of this traditional Japanese practice and modern art form. Be sure to bring water for this longer class -and there will be time for a break! There’s a lot to cover before we ‘get the ropes’ of it all and actually get-to-the-ropes, so be prepared to spend about half of the time engaged in discussion covering background and cultural significance, safety, consent, and possible risks of rope bondage and then get ready to practice some entry level knots, tensions, and even work towards a few simple ties. Shibari can be practiced safely solo or with a partner(s), and this beginner class sets you up to start that exploration!
Access Info: This class is held in-person and at the Self Serve store. Masks are required at Self Serve, please follow all contagion protocols to help keep each others and our community safe. This class does have a physical component, asking students to be able to reach their ankles from a seated position when practicing ties. Please let Self Serve staff know if you need any accommodations and alternative practice options can be given. Our entrance & bathroom are accessible. Please refrain from wearing heavily scented products. This class has a 10 person limit.
Stevie (they/them pronouns) is a sex educator and the store manager of Self Serve toys. They have experience working as an adult entertainer and pro dom and have studied and practiced Shibari for over 6 years.
